What is Joint Life Cover?

When you take out John Lewis Life Cover, you’ll know that you’re helping to ease your family's financial worries should you die or be diagnosed with a terminal illness.

If you have a spouse, civil partner or share a financial commitment with someone, you can choose to take out a plan that covers just yourself or them as well.

Single Life Cover:

  • Each of you takes out a plan, with the ability to choose different amounts and cover periods.
  • If one of you were to die, the other's plan would still continue.
  • Taking out two single plans will often only cost a few pounds more each month than a joint plan.

Joint Life Cover:

  • You take out one plan that covers both of you for the same amount and length of time.
  • Taking out a joint plan will often cost less than two single plans.
  • If one of you were to die, the surviving partner would no longer be covered.

You can take out Joint Life Cover for either a Decreasing Term or a Level Term.

Please be aware that although we can talk through the different options with you, we can't give you financial advice. A professional financial adviser can help you decide whether a Life Cover plan is suitable for you.

A John Lewis Life Cover plan doesn't have a cash-in value and requires you to make monthly payments. The cost of your cover will depend on your individual needs and circumstances and the amount of cover you choose.

It's important to remember that the buying power of any money paid to you will reduce with inflation, so you need to make sure that you take out sufficient Life Cover and regularly review your arrangements with us.

John Lewis Life Cover is provided by Friends Life Limited - please read Important information (PDF). Once your policy begins you may receive documents and correspondence from Friends Life. These will always be relevant to your application or policy and will never be unsolicited.
