Pet Insurance for Manx cats

Originating on the Isle of Man, the Manx cat is easily recognised due to its lack of tail. Despite a non-existent or very small tail, Manx cats are just as cute as other cats and love exploring.

They are also able to jump higher than most other cats which helps them explore every nook and cranny of your house.

Although wonderful pets, Manx cats can suffer from Manx Syndrome, where the mutant gene that causes the cats to be tailless, also shortens the spine causing serious damage.

To make sure that your Manx cat will be properly cared for in case of an accident, make sure you have a comprehensive pet insurance policy that offers long term cover.

The Myth of Manx Cats

Did you know...?

  • On the Isle of Man, Manx cats were known as stubbin.
  • These cats supposedly swam to the Isle of Man from wrecked ships of the Spanish Armada.
  • Some people believe the Manx were created by a cat mating with a rabbit, which explains the long back legs and almost non-existent tail.
  • In Wales, Manx (or Cymric) cats used to be seen as sacred

Caring for your Manx Cat

The Manx cat is not as fluffy as other cats and you need only brush your Manx once a week.

These cats often like playing with water, so bathing them can be quite fun and less difficult than with other cats.

Manx are easy to train and have dog-like abilities to respond to commands. They can also be trained to walk with a lead and fetch small items.
