Pet Insurance for
Mongrels (Mixed-breeds)

The exciting thing about choosing a Mongrel or mixed-breed dog is that you never really know what they’ll look like when they’re older. If you know their parentage then you can form an educated guess, but often these canines can be quite unusual.

They are also a lot cheaper to buy than purebred dogs and can have fewer health problems as they have not been interbred.

However, as the Mongrel’s ancestry is often unknown, there can be health complications in later life especially if you rescued your dog from a possibly traumatic background.

Just to be on the safe side, it's a good idea to protect your dog with a high-quality pet insurance policy.

Why choose our Pet Insurance
for your Mongrel?

Our dog insurance policy includes:

Tick

Long-term pet care – we can insure your dog from when they're just a puppy of eight weeks old

Tick

Up to £12,000 towards medical costs each year of your dog’s life as long as your policy is renewed and your payments are paid.

Tick

We can pay your vet directly – as long as they're set up to take our payments.

Tick

Up to £3 million liability insurance if your dog causes an accident

Mongrel mania

Did you know...?

  • Mongrels have many nicknames including Heinz 57 and Bitzer (bits o’ this, bits o’ that).
  • Mixed-breed dogs have been able to compete in dog competitions like Scruffts since the 1980s.
  • According to research by The University of Aberdeen, mixed-breed dogs are actually more intelligent than purebreds.
  • The first living creature to be sent into space was Laika, a mongrel dog from the Soviet Union.

Caring for your Mongrel

Your dog’s routine will depend on their personality and appearance. You should brush your dog at least once a week to avoid moulting, more if they are particularly furry.

The same is true about washing them, so as long as your dog stays fairly clean, there’s no need to give them too many baths.

Remember to exercise your dog daily and feed them a balanced diet. Obesity is a growing concern among dogs and can lead to heart conditions and breathing problems.
