Pet Insurance for Pedigrees

Many dog owners prefer a pedigree as they know exactly what they’re signing up for.

The puppy’s parents can be examined and it’s likely that the dog will grow up to resemble the classic appearance and temperament of their breed.

If your purebred dog came from a reputable breeder, then faulty genes may have been bred out.

However, inbreeding does mean that certain defects remain hereditary and it's worth buying pet insurance for your dog throughout its life just in case.

Why choose our Pet Insurance
for your pedigree dog?

Our dog insurance policy includes:

Tick

Long-term pet care – we can insure your dog from as young as eight weeks old

Tick

Tick

We can settle vet bills directly with your vet - if they are set up to take our payments.

Tick

Up to £1,000 of advertising costs if your dog goes missing or is stolen

Pure pedigree

Did you know...?

  • There are over 700 types of purebred dog.
  • The term purebred wasn’t used until the late 19th century, soon after the founding of The Kennel Club in 1873.
  • Following concerns about dog welfare, Crufts announced in 2011 that dogs would be judged against criteria of 'fitter, healthier and happier' instead of the traditional 'faster, higher and stronger'.
  • All pedigree dogs are divided into seven Breed Groups: Hound; Working; Gundog; Terrier; Utility; Pastoral and Toy.

Caring for your pedigree

All dogs need a balanced diet and plenty of exercise, especially if you’re planning on showing your purebred dog.

At Crufts this year any breed of dog which failed to pass a vet check was unable to win the Best of Breed awards, emphasising that show dogs need to be healthy.

Make sure that your dog is brushed regularly to avoid moulting and bathed when necessary. It is also important to clean your dog’s teeth to avoid dental problems in later life.
