Legal protection - £24.91 per year

If you’re injured in a road traffic accident that's not your fault, you may have the right to pursue compensation. You may also face financial losses that aren't covered by your car insurance. These could include:

Loss of earnings

Cost of alternative travel arrangements

Recovery of your policy excess from a third party

In addition, you may need to defend certain motoring prosecutions against you, or resolve disputes related to buying and selling goods or services for your vehicle - including selling your car.

Motor Legal Protection covers legal costs up to £100,000 per claim, if you need a lawyer to act for you in these circumstances.

For any claim to be accepted, there must be more than a 50% chance of success.

Motor Legal Protection also provides access to a 24/7 Legal Helpline, providing advice for private legal problems and access to online legal documents.

Car Breakdown Cover 

We offer three levels of Breakdown Cover:

Roadside Rescue

Home Rescue - which in addition to roadside rescue, also provides cover if you break down at home

European Rescue - our most comprehensive level of Breakdown Cover.

Excess Protection - £31.13 per year

If you need to make a claim for damage to your car, you’ll usually have to pay the total excess on your policy to the repairer. You can protect against this expense with Excess Protection which will reimburse up to £500 of your excess payment (excludes windscreen excess).

Protected No Claims Discount

Claiming for an accident that was your fault usually means you lose some or all of your No Claims Discount (except for windscreen claims). However there is a way to protect your discount. If you have accumulated four or more years No Claims Discount, you may be able to protect the discount for an additional amount. You can only protect your No Claims Discount before your policy starts. No Claims Discount protection does not protect the overall price of your insurance policy. The price of your insurance may increase following an accident even if you were not at fault.

Protected No Claims Discount allows you to make up to two fault claims in a three year period without losing any of your No Claims Discount. Your protection is lost after the second claim, which means that if you make a third fault claim within three years of insurance, you will lose some of your No Claims Discount.

If you wish to protect less than four years of No Claims Discount we may still be able to help.

The only thing was that I could not add a copy of my proof of no claims bonus using my iPad. I rang to see how I could do this and a very helpful assistant told me the email address to use to send a copy of proof. This then went through easily.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from frustration I do not have the accurate figures to hand , but these are representative. I had not received a renewal notice by post so rang for details of the new premium and was told this was £990, the previous 2 years had bee £234 and £250, there hd been no changes over the period apart from the car and its 2 drivers aging, and no incidents accidents or traffic offences. No explanation could be given for the increase and I was told the figure was correct. I searched the web for a new quotation which was about £275. i phoned JL Insurance again and was again quoted the £990 figure, i told the adviser that I had an on line figure less than 1/3 of his quotation and he advised taking it as he had no means of querying the high figure. I did so. The new insurance documents arrived in the post and at the same time another letter offering JL car insurance at something like £370 a figure significantly higher than the one i had agreed, with no explanations.
