Pet Insurance for Labradors

Mischievous, loving and energetic, Labradors are one of the most popular dogs in the world. Highly intelligent, these dogs are frequently chosen as assistance dogs, but also make wonderful pets.

The Labrador’s ancestors came from the Canadian province of Newfoundland, now Labrador, and were brought back to the UK in the 1800s.

The black Labrador was preferred, but in the 20th century all three types were widely accepted and enjoyed.

Whichever Labrador you’ve chosen – golden, black or chocolate – it’s important that your dog is able to receive the highest levels of medical care if needed.

That’s why selecting a pet insurance policy that can look after your dog for the long term is a good choice for your Labrador.

The Legend of the Labrador

Did you know...?

  • A yellow Labrador has been the symbol of Andrex toilet paper since 1972.
  • Labradors can carry an egg in their mouth without breaking it, showing their gentle nature.
  • In 2000, an assistance Labrador named Endal was named Dog of the Year and Dog of the Millennium. Endal was the first dog to be able to operate a Chip and Pin machine and also received the PDSA Gold Medal in 2002.
  • The book, and subsequent film, Marley and Me is based on a true story of the author’s life with his mischievous golden Labrador

Caring for your Labrador

Labradors need frequent exercise and are very fond of swimming, so take a towel with you if you’re going near water. Your Labrador may ask for food more than they need, so make sure you don’t overfeed yours as obesity is common in this breed.

Unlike other dogs, you don’t need to wash your Labrador very often (unless they’re muddy) as they’re good at keeping themselves clean. Brush them frequently to keep skin and fur in good condition and to avoid moulting.

Labradors can also be quite naughty if left alone for long periods, as they get bored and can try to escape, so keep them entertained and consider obedience training.
