If you’re a cat lover, no doubt your pampered puss has you wrapped around their paw. Your cat will have become a much-loved member of your family and you may even treat your cat better than your partner or children. This is why it’s so important to protect your feline friend with a pet insurance policy that suits your cat.

If you’ve opted for a pedigree puss, it’s even more important that they’re covered by your pet insurance, as these cats are generally worth more money and are potentially at risk of being catnapped. Check with your insurance provider before you make a decision on which breed of cat to go for, but we’ve compiled a list of a few favourite felines.

British Shorthair

The British Shorthair is a large breed of cat with an average life expectancy of about 15 years. Their attractive facial features – round cheeks, big eyes and short nose – make them a popular choice. If you’re intending to show your cat, then the British Shorthair has an easy-going temperament and short hair, which is easy to look after. Female cats are particularly placid and are happy to live among kittens if you’re considering breeding.

American Shorthair

The American Shorthair is one of the oldest cat breeds in the United States and is renowned for being calm and affectionate. Easy to live with and low maintenance, they enjoy the company of humans and other cats. American Shorthairs are friendly and playful and get on well with children. As they’re intelligent cats, they can also be trained. These playful pussycats are ideal for those with busy homes as they enjoy being around people.

Persian

If you’re looking for a cat who likes being pampered, then a Persian could be the cat for you. Their long, fluffy hair needs brushing and grooming daily and they also need their face washing regularly. However, as their faces are flat, they can be prone to breathing problems and watery eyes. Of course if you’re happy to lavish attention on a demanding puss then Persians make great family cats and are docile and adaptable.

Bengal

With its leopard-like, silky fur, Bengal cats are beautiful and exotic creatures. Despite being a relatively new breed of cat, they have adapted well to domestic life. Bengals are athletic and constantly on the move, bounding around the house and even doing somersaults when they get excited.

Siamese

Despite their regal appearance, Siamese cats are very sociable and happy to cuddle up and snooze on humans. Doglike in character, these cats can be trained to fetch and walk on a lead. Siamese cats can be loud and they do enjoy climbing and being high up – so if you come home and can’t find your mischievous pussycat, they may be looking down on you!

Whichever pedigree cat you choose, buying pet insurance can make sure your precious puss is taken care of.
