Pet Insurance for
Staffordshire Bull Terriers

Originally bred for fighting, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier (or Staffy) is a muscular dog with a gentle temperament.

Contrary to popular belief they are not aggressive dogs and most ‘dangerous’ Staffordshire Bull Terriers will have been trained to be so by their owners.

Ironically, Staffordshire Bull Terriers make bad attack dogs because they are so fond of people and a properly trained one will be a loyal and affectionate pet.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is quite a healthy dog, although like most breeds, it is susceptible to eye problems.

To make sure that your dog will get the best medical attention if they need it, choose an insurer that provides long-term cover for your dog.

The truth about Staffordshire Bull Terriers

Did you know...?

  • The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is one of only two dogs listed by The Kennel Club as being suitable for children.
  • Staffordshire Bull Terriers are descended from Mastiffs.
  • The Staffordshire Bull Terrier has been nicknamed ‘The Nanny Dog’ because of its fondness for children.
  • Steve Irwin was so attached to Sui, his Staffordshire Bull Terrier, that he named his daughter 'Bindi Sue' after her.

Caring for your Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Despite their short hair, Staffordshire Bull Terriers do tend to moult quite a bit, so it’s worth brushing them several times a week to keep them from shedding their fur.

These dogs can become quite stocky so be sure to feed them a balanced diet and give them regular exercise to keep them from getting obese and suffering serious health problems.

It’s also important to keep your Staffordshire Bull Terrier’s eyes clean as this can prevent eye infections and problems in later life.
