Travel Insurance can protect you from the unexpected if your holiday doesn't quite go to plan. But with so many options, it can be confusing to know what you need.

To make things a little easier, we’ve explained some of the key features and benefits of our Travel Insurance and why you might need them. So next time you’re planning a trip, choosing your travel insurance will be the easy part.

Sporting holidays

We offer wide-ranging cover for a selection of activities, including winter sports, golfing holidays and ‘hazardous activities’. If you’re planning a skiing or snowboarding holiday, it’s important to make sure that your travel insurance covers you.

Single trip vs annual multi-trip

If you’re only planning one holiday in a year then a single-trip policy may be the best option. With John Lewis Travel Insurance this means that you’re covered for one holiday up to six months long.

If you’re planning more than one holiday in a year then it may be more economical to buy an annual multi-trip policy. This gives you cover for a period of one year and covers trips during that period as long as they are under 45 days.

Independent traveller

If you like to book your own travel and accommodation separately, rather than booking a package, make sure you   look at our optional Independent Traveller cover. This covers flights, accommodation and other elements booked separately. It can protect you against:

  • flight cancellations
  • denied boarding
  • delayed or missed connections
  • loss of unused accommodation due to the insolvency of your accommodation provider
  • necessary additional costs, such as extra transport or alternative accommodation.

Emergency Assistance

Wherever you’re heading for your holiday, we’ll always be on the end of the phone if you need us. We have a  worldwide network of English-speaking agents – covering over 200 countries – who can assist with anything from a lost passport to a medical emergency.

Medical expenses

With John Lewis Travel Insurance, you get cover for Emergency Medical Expenses up to £10 million. Our experienced team of medical professionals will ensure payment for necessary treatment.

Cover for medical conditions

John Lewis Travel Insurance can cover a wide variety of existing medical conditions as long as you tell us about them when you take out your policy. Many policies won’t cover you for a existing medical condition so it's important to check your cover before you travel.

Cover for your family

With John Lewis Travel Insurance, your family is covered if you've chosen the Family Cover Option. This will provide cover for two adults and any number of their children, stepchildren or foster children aged under 18 (or aged under 23 if in full-time education).

This applies as long as they’re accompanying their parents or legal guardian, insured on the same policy and travelling on any trip to the same destination. The children aren’t covered if they travel without their parent or legal guardian.

Business Travel

If you’re travelling on business then we offer business travel cover. This is available for both Annual multi-trip and Single trip policies and gives you:

  • an additional £1,000 of cover for business equipment
  • cover for the reasonable costs of arranging for a colleague to take your place on a pre-arranged trip should you be unable to go
  • cover for your laptop up to the single article limit of £500

Other things to check before you buy:

Though all policies differ, it's also important to get cover for eventualities like cancellation, lost luggage, passports and money. John Lewis Travel Insurance covers all of these.

  • Cancellation cover
John Lewis Travel Insurance provides up to £6,000 cover per person for costs resulting from having to cancel your holiday
  • Travelling while pregnant
If you're pregnant you should always speak to your doctor and travel provider before you go and don't travel over your due date.
  • Single items
Both your travel and home contents policies will have single item limits. These vary among different providers. John Lewis Home Insurance and John Lewis Travel Insurance provide cover to ensure your valuables are protected.

Terms, conditions, limitations, exclusions and eligibility criteria apply. A full copy of thepolicy wording and the insurance complaints
procedure are available on request.
