Wedding Insurance Buying Guide

Nothing should spoil your big day. That's why having wedding insurance can help give you peace of mind when you're planning.

Our Buying Guide will help you find the right cover.

Wedding Insurance provides financial protection in case things don’t go to plan on your big day. This includes covering cancellation if the bride, groom or close family members fall ill when it's inappropriate to continue the ceremony and it's not due to a pre-existing medical condition.

Wedding insurance covers you if you have to cancel or postpone the wedding because the bride, groom or close family members fall ill and it's inappropriate to continue the ceremony and it's not due to a pre-existing medical condition.

It also protects the following from loss, theft or failure of suppliers:

  • wedding gifts
  • wedding flowers
  • wedding cake
  • hired wedding transport
  • wedding rings
  • wedding outfits
  • professional wedding photographs

If your photos can’t be printed because the film, negatives or any digital media that was used has been damaged, John Lewis Wedding Insurance will pay for a photographer to re-shoot with the wedding party. Cover also includes payment of any costs needed to do this, including things like suit hire.

If you have to re-arrange your wedding, John Lewis Wedding Insurance will pay for any irrecoverable expenses.

John Lewis Wedding Insurance offers six different levels of flexible cover - ranging from £10,000 up to £100,000 - and allows you to upgrade your cover at any time. It’s always a good idea to keep a record of what you’ve spent to make sure that you’ve got enough cover.

Wedding Insurance policies do differ. What's important is that the policy fully covers the cost of your wedding. Policies can also cover:

  • Getting married abroad: if you're having your wedding abroad, check that you're insured. John Lewis Wedding Insurance covers weddings anywhere in the world - all you have to do is take out Overseas Wedding Cover in addition to our main Wedding Insurance Policy. We also offer comprehensive Travel Insurance for your entire wedding trip and honeymoon.
  • Failure of suppliers: if any of your suppliers, such as caterers or entertainers don’t turn up, you'll be covered for the costs and deposits you've already paid (limits do apply). John Lewis Wedding Insurance also covers the cost of finding replacements.
  • Marquees: if you're hiring a marquee, you can cover it against damage or vandalism. John Lewis Wedding Insurance offers the option of special cover for marquees or gazebos and also covers you if you want to have your wedding at home.
