We want to make sure you know exactly what you’re covered for and that you have all the information you need should you have to make a claim.
Failure of suppliers and/or loss or damage
If one of your suppliers lets you down and/or you accidentally damage something as important as your wedding dress, we wouldn’t want it to ruin your big day. So we cover your wedding attire, wedding flowers, wedding cake, wedding cars and transport, wedding photography and video and your wedding stationery against accidental loss or damage.
We also provide cover if your supplier goes bust or can’t deliver what was promised.
Bear in mind, cover is for the cost of services that haven’t been fulfilled or for any additional costs to arrange an equivalent supplier. For example, if your photographer fails to turn up on the day, there's no compensation for the stress this may have caused, only for the irrecoverable deposit or additional cost in arranging another photographer.
Top tip: Research your suppliers to make sure they are well-established – if your caterers go into liquidation you may have to cancel or rearrange. Make sure you keep receipts and written agreements and contact your suppliers a couple of weeks before the big day to confirm details. If someone you know, family or friend, is supplying something for your wedding, it’s important that you have a written agreement with them too.
You’re covered for loss of, or damage to the wedding rings from the purchase date of the policy, right through to 24 hours after the wedding.
Top tip: Wedding rings are easily mislaid, so keep them safe. If the best man is looking after them make sure he keeps them with him at all times.
We’ll cover your gifts for the unexpected. So if your new 24 piece dinner service ends up in a hundred pieces, we’ll pay up to your chosen level of cover as long as the gifts are being stored by you, a close relative or a member of your wedding party. This includes damage or theft in transit to or from your wedding or when they are on display on the big day. Please note, the cover starts seven days before the wedding and continues for 24 hours after.
Top tip: If you do display your gifts at the wedding reception, make sure someone keeps an eye on them at all times. Many venues are not exclusive or are open to the public so you need to be sure to keep your gifts in a locked room if unattended to avoid theft.
Cancellation or Rearrangement Cover
It’s upsetting having to cancel or rearrange your wedding due to the unexpected. But we can help by covering the costs up to your chosen level of cover for any expenses you’ve paid for or for any additional costs incurred for rearrangement. This covers the bride, groom’s or prospective civil partners’ outfits and services booked but not used as a result of the unavoidable cancellation or curtailment of the wedding or wedding reception.
Top tip: The most common reason for postponing or cancelling a wedding is when a member of the wedding party falls ill. Make sure you have a list of all the necessary phone numbers and give it to someone you trust. They can take the pressure off by making some of the important calls for you.
Cover for overseas weddings
If you're getting married abroad and you’ve purchased Overseas Cover, your policy will have the same cover applied to anything relating to your wedding.
Top tip: John Lewis Travel Insurance can provide cover for your honeymoon. We have a range of options available and all levels of cover come with the same great value and outstanding customer service. For more information or to get a quote call 0800 953 2552.
If you're holding your wedding or reception in a marquee and you have purchased Marquee Cover, make sure you keep any contracts and receipts from the marquee company. You also need to be clear about what else they're providing – tables and chairs, and catering equipment etc.
Top tip: Make sure the marquee company has checked the location is suitable for a marquee. For example is there a risk of flooding or could any trees fall on the marquee?
