Legal protection - £24.79 per year

If you’re injured in a road traffic accident that's not your fault, you may have the right to pursue compensation. You may also face financial losses that aren't covered by your car insurance. These could include:

Loss of earnings

Cost of alternative travel arrangements

Recovery of your policy excess from a third party

In addition, you may need to defend certain motoring prosecutions against you, or resolve disputes related to buying and selling goods or services for your vehicle - including selling your car.

Motor Legal Protection covers legal costs up to £100,000 per claim, if you need a lawyer to act for you in these circumstances.

For any claim to be accepted, there must be more than a 50% chance of success.

Motor Legal Protection also provides access to a 24/7 Legal Helpline, providing advice for private legal problems and access to online legal documents.

We offer three levels of Breakdown Cover:

Roadside Rescue

Home Rescue - which in addition to roadside rescue, also provides cover if you break down at home

European Rescue - our most comprehensive level of Breakdown Cover.

Excess Protection - £30.99 per year

If you need to make a claim for damage to your car, you’ll usually have to pay the total excess on your policy to the repairer. You can protect against this expense with Excess Protection which will reimburse up to £500 of your excess payment (excludes windscreen excess).

Protected No Claims Discount

Claiming for an accident that was your fault usually means you lose some or all of your No Claims Discount (except for windscreen claims). However there is a way to protect your discount. If you have accumulated four or more years No Claims Discount, you may be able to protect the discount for an additional amount. You can only protect your No Claims Discount before your policy starts. No Claims Discount protection does not protect the overall price of your insurance policy. The price of your insurance may increase following an accident even if you were not at fault.

Protected No Claims Discount allows you to make up to two fault claims in a three year period without losing any of your No Claims Discount. Your protection is lost after the second claim, which means that if you make a third fault claim within three years of insurance, you will lose some of your No Claims Discount.

If you wish to protect less than four years of No Claims Discount we may still be able to help.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from very disappointed I arranged the insurance renewal. Then needed to claim for a windscreen. I rang 'John Lewis' to find the right company to repair the screen. Went on holiday and returned to find I was uninsured. Apparently I had not informed the right people of my claim and the insurance company wanted to up my premium. As I did not respond to an email I cannot find which I would not have seen on holiday anyway, they cancelled my insurance. I thought that I had paid in full for the whole year. I feel very let down by the John Lewis brand which I respect from all my other dealings with it.

We have just downsized from 2 cars to 1 and needed to cancel 1 policy and change the other one. The adviser was so helpful and careful in doing this and finding us another underwriter who could offer a better deal with the same level of service. We had an immediate email and are awaiting further details in the post. The only slight observation was that my husband phoned after 2 days to confirm cover for voluntary driving as it was not written on the policy as before and the person he spoke to said she would ring back to confirm all was in order on the following Monday. We did not receive this call so have assumed all is in order.

I then phoned the help desk to make sure I had filled everything in correctly and that the premium would be correct and everything was confirmed as OK by a really helpful and friendly person.

My only disappointment was when I reviewed my quote I paid £10 more than what I was originally quoted. However I continued with the purchase as I value the excellent product & customer service that JL provide.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The prove of the pudding is in the eating. Exclent service when I enquirer about a quotation. I was waiting for my existing insurance to confirm my renewal amount. Upon receipt of this I decided to " go with yourselves ". When I phoned to complete this it was re quoted at a higher price, when inquired this I was informed that they had just run my details through and this was the amount required. I then informed them that if they not Honour the quoted price as per my initial enquiry ( and confirmed by e - mail) also the original person Advised me that Quote "playing the price game was not John Lewis strategy" after a lengthy time they agreed to honour the original price. Based on my initial conversation I agreed to take this policy. I hope this was a ONE OFF, and not your usual method of dealing with customers.
