Choosing wedding entertainment

If you’re getting married you may be having a small affair with close family and friends only, or a lavish celebration with a ceremony, banquet and evening reception.

Although it’s not essential, most people tend to have some form of entertainment if their wedding goes on into the evening.

If you’re adamant you’re not going to ‘just have a DJ’ because it’s overdone and people can’t talk because it’s so loud, then why not consider a few other ideas to help make your wedding memorable.

1. Tribute band

If you and your partner are fond of music why not find a group who perform songs of your favourite band? Popular tribute acts include Baggy Trousers (Madness), Back for Good (Take That) and Queen II (Queen). Choosing a tribute band or artist that everyone knows will get your guests singing along and dancing around.

2. Barn dance

Having an entertainment where guests have to participate is a good ice breaker and gets different people talking. Even the shyest people might try barn dancing as it’s easy to do and great fun. If country music isn’t for you, there’s always line dancing!

3. Photo booth

There are several types of these, both of which provide hilarity and a lasting memory for your friends. Traditional photo booths provide hats, glasses and wigs for guests to dress up in before having their photo taken. Others give you a few seconds to perform something and this film is made into a flick book.

4. Casino

Indulge in a bit of Las Vegas style entertainment and hire a casino for your wedding, complete with croupiers, Roulette, Blackjack and more. Guests play with fun money (exchanged for chips) and the winner is the person with the most chips at the end of the night.

5. Giant games

If your wedding venue has grounds or a spare room, hiring a few extra large games can make for simple but fun entertainment. Games range from the traditional (such as Twister, Connect Four and Jenga, but bigger), to a bowling alley, Scalextric track and croquet set. These are particularly good if there’s a gap between each part of the wedding and will help to keep children happy.
